Sushi Cupcakes?! - May 2009

No... no actual sushi was used in the making of these cupcakes.  :)  I made these sushi shaped cupcakes for my son, Caleb's, 1st grade teacher for Teacher Appreciation Week.

This Weapon is Your Life - April 2009

I made this 3D lightsaber cake for my son, Caleb's, 7th birthday.  This was at the same party as the 3D R2-D2 cake I made for him (see the This is the Droid Cake You're Looking For... post).

I made this 3D R2-D2 cake for my son, Caleb's, 7th birthday.  For the same party I also made him a lightsaber cake (see the This Weapon is Your Life post).

R2-D2 Cupcakes - April 2009

I made these R2-D2 cupcakes for my son, Caleb, to celebrate his birthday with his 2nd grade class at school.

First I baked, cooled, and iced the cupcakes.  Then I used food coloring to tint my buttercream icing the various colors I would need to draw R2-D2.  I started by piping everything that would be gray, which was almost everything.  I looked at a picture of R2-D2 and just tried to get the basic lines and shapes that I thought would portray him well without trying to pipe every compartment and detail.  Next I filled in the other details with the blue, black, and red icings.

I was happy with how these little droid cupcakes turned out, and Caleb was really excited about bringing them to school!  Everyone enjoyed them.  :)

A Welcome as Big as Texas... or Shaped Like It at Least - January 2009

I made this Texas shaped welcome home cake for my nephew, Monty.  He and his mom were moving to Texas and she wanted a little something for him when they got to the house to celebrate their move and make him feel more at home.

Texas Shaped Welcome Home Cake
For this cake I first baked a 12" round chocolate cake and let it cool completely.  I carved the cake freehand into the basic shape of Texas.  :)  I crumb coated the cake and let the icing set.  Then I put on a top coat of buttercream icing.  I used a star tip to pipe the words and the heart on in red buttercream.  Then I outlined the top of the cake with the star tip, and finished it off by doing the same on the bottom border of the cake.

When Cats Dream of Yarn Balls... - January 2009

I made this ball of yarn cake with five little fondant kittens for my sister, Casandra's, birthday.  She loves cats, and I made the kitten on top the yarn ball look like her cat.

When you light the candle it looks like you've lit a candle on the cupcake they're holding.  Cute!

Changing Things Up a Bit :)

Hi!  I am going to be changing how I will be posting to the blog.  I am going to just get everything on here in a basic form.  I'll post each cake (or whatever it is) with a few pictures and a very brief blurb about what it is.  Once I get everything I've done on the site I'll be focusing on the current and the more recent cakes I've done.  As I find time I'll add pictures and fill in details for the posts of the past cakes.  This way I'll have things in order like I want :) , but I won't feel like I'll never get caught up to what I'm doing now (which is the way it's been going so far).

In the meantime, if you do have any questions about a cake, etc. that doesn't have details yet [or even if you have a question about a cake that has details already on the post :) ] then please feel free to email me by clicking the 'Contact Me' tab at the top of the page and using the email address listed there.  I will try to get back with you as soon as possible.  Or you can always leave a question or comment about a specific cake on the comments link at the end of each post.  :)

So, I hope you are enjoying the site and that this change will make it even more enjoyable.  :)
